This piece was created as a reminder to myself.
Like many people, I can easily absorb the worries, moods and expectations of the world around me. Over time I’ve learned that there is a difference between noticing something and carrying it. This print is about that distinction.
The badger, hare and raven form a protective animal totem. The badger stands at the base, representing resilience, grounding and the strength to remain rooted when life feels chaotic. The hare sits above, symbolising awareness, intuition and sensitivity. The raven watches from the highest point, representing wisdom, perspective and the ability to see clearly beyond immediate emotion.
The birch trees are carved with watchful eyes, reminding us that we are constantly observing the world around us. The full moon face represents quiet reflection and inner knowing, while the thorny blackthorn branches create a protective boundary between the self and the outside world.
Flowing through the sea is the phrase “Observe Don’t Absorb” — a message that sits at the heart of the piece. It is a reminder that we can witness fear, negativity, uncertainty and noise without allowing them to take root within us.
Created in a traditional linocut-inspired style, this artwork reflects my love of British folklore, woodland symbolism and nature’s ability to teach simple but powerful lessons. More than anything, it serves as a personal reminder to stay grounded, stay aware, and protect my peace.
